The algorithm is the map. Our free tools compute an authentic chart: where the planets are, in which nakshatra, in which bhava, under which dasha. Every serious astrology app can plot a chart; that is why the chart itself is free here, always.
The pundit is the navigator. Software is bound by strict if/then logic; a trained jyotishi synthesizes contradictory data points and applies them to the reality of your life. The reading, the timing, and any prescribed counter-measure (upaya) come from the pundit — never from the machine. That is the product, and as you’ll see below, it is also the safety line.
How our engine calculates
The free tools use the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitra Paksha) ayanamsa — the reckoning of Jyotish, not Western tropical astrology. We compute the seven classical grahas plus Rahu and Ketu (mean lunar node) — no outer planets, no asteroids, no Western constructs. Charts use whole-sign bhavas from the Lagna; divisional charts include the Navamsa (D9) and Dashamsha (D10); dashas follow the Vimshottari system from the Moon’s nakshatra, on the 365.25-day year convention.
Positions come from a professional-grade astronomical model and are verified in automated tests against the Swiss Ephemeris — the reference standard of computational astrology. Across our test span (1947–2026), positions agree within a few arcseconds (the worst case is under ten arcseconds — about 1/200th of the width of the full Moon). Sign, nakshatra, and pada boundaries in the test set match exactly.

Why the algorithm’s reading is not just shallow — it can be wrong
Software reads placements in isolation: it sees Mars in the 7th house and auto-prints a partnership warning. A pundit reads for synthesis and cancellation — that same Mars may be mitigated by a trinal aspect from Jupiter, or a yoga may cancel the debilitation entirely (Neecha Bhanga). The pundit also applies Desha–Kala–Patra — place, time, circumstance: a five-year-old and a fifty-year-old do not receive the same counsel about the same Venus period.
Timing has the same trap. An algorithm that detects a notorious transit — Sade Sati, a Saturn return — prints dire warnings and manufactures anxiety. In real Jyotish, a transit cannot override the ruling dasha; an executive in a strong Jupiter mahadasha experiences a harsh Saturn transit as high-pressure work, not catastrophe.
Where algorithmic rigidity becomes harmful — the remedies
Remedial measures (upayas) are where the difference stops being academic. Prescribing requires human judgment to weigh the karmic load and fit the prescription to the individual’s actual capacity:
- Gemstones (ratnas). Software calculates planetary strength and suggests a stone for the weakest planet. A pundit knows that strengthening a weak planet is not always safe — if that planet rules a difficult house, the stone will amplify obstacles, debt, or illness. Gems are prescribed on functional-benefic status, so the remedy cannot trigger collateral damage.
- Mantras and slokas. Software outputs a generic planetary chant. A pundit assesses your capacity, phonetic ability, and daily routine — complex slokas require exact meter to be effective, so for a time-poor life the pundit prescribes a precise, shorter bija or nama mantra that still addresses the affliction and actually fits the day you really have.
- Yagyas. Software recommends a standard appeasement by the current dasha lord. A pundit tailors the most critical element — the sankalpa, the stated intention — scales the ceremony to the severity of the chart, and selects the optimal muhurta to perform it: the bridge between your modern circumstance and the priests performing the rite.
- Way-of-life adjustments. Software issues static rules ("wear white on Mondays"). A pundit integrates Jyotish with lifestyle — actionable micro-habits, a shifted routine, a fast on a specific lunar phase, targeted philanthropy — aligned with your real bandwidth.
The bottom line: the algorithmic chart is an excellent diagnostic — it captures the geometry of the heavens at your birth, flawlessly. Prescription is a different act. The algorithm diagnoses; only a human prescribes.

The safety firewall
Because a wrong automated reading is not merely low-quality but potentially harmful, our tools operate under a strict rule:
- The engine never prescribes remedies. No auto-recommended gemstones, yagyas, or fix-this mantras. (The clearest case: strengthening a weak planet with a gemstone is not always safe — if that planet rules a difficult house, the stone can amplify exactly what you wanted to quiet. Only functional-benefic screening by a pundit resolves that.)
- The engine never raises standalone timing alarms. No “hardship ahead” banners. Timing assessments originate with the pundit, in dasha hierarchy, or not at all.
- Every remedy is pundit-prescribed and documented — intention, scope, performers, timing, and proof of performance, with consent for names and birth data.

The forensic tier
Some things software cannot begin. Birth-time rectification: the critical divisional charts shift every few minutes, so an uncertain birth time defeats every algorithm — reverse-calculation traps itself in conflicting loops. A pundit conducts a live forensic interview, testing micro-charts against the way your real life events actually happened, to lock the exact degree. It is the single most un-fakeable capability in this field, and it is offered as a premium service.
Verified accuracy, honestly framed
The presiding jyotishi of this practice — trained in the discipline from early childhood through doctoral level — maintains an annual accuracy-verification practice across a record of thousands of readings: past readings are revisited against what actually occurred, and the method is modulated accordingly. We feature this because it is the standard we hold the whole bench to; it is self-generated evidence, and we frame it exactly as that, not as third-party proof. Where our AI tools assist a pundit — drafting a chart summary, for instance — the pundit reviews, applies judgment, and signs; assistance is disclosed, judgment is never delegated.

Jyotish is not a commercial invention — it is a university discipline with formal degrees. In India, the epicenter of this knowledge, scholars earn Shastri (the traditional B.A.), Acharya (M.A.), and Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D.) at institutions where the root texts are preserved, taught, and researched. The most respected of these academic homes include:
- Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi — home of the legendary Faculty of Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vijnan; its Department of Jyotish teaches everything from Siddhanta (the astronomy and mathematics) to Phalit (the predictive art) from traditional Sanskrit texts.
- Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi — founded in 1791; one of the oldest Sanskrit universities in the world and a powerhouse of traditional Jyotish scholarship.
